“In recent centuries, millions of people came to this land to pursue their dream of building a future in freedom. We, the people of this continent, are not fearful of foreigners, because most of us were once foreigners. I say this to you as the son of immigrants, knowing that so many of you are also descended from immigrants....For those peoples and their nations, from the heart of American democracy, I wish to reaffirm my highest esteem and appreciation!”

Welcoming the Stranger

The presence of Jesus “in the flesh” is most evident in the faces of men, women and children who are strangers in our midst. In serving and loving them here at St. Bartholomew, we serve and love him.

For new community members who speak different languages, our website can be changed using the Google Translator at the bottom right of the screen. (And sorry if the electronically translated words aren't always exactly correct!)

If you know of someone in need of our assistance, call the Parish Office at 301-229-7933.

St. Teresa's Exhortation

Christ has no body on earth now, but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which the compassion of Christ must look out on the world. Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good. Yours are the hands with which he is to bless his people.

-St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)
