The Ministry of Lector or Proclaimer involves commitment, faith and skill. The scripture readings selected to be read within Mass for any day of the year are gathered in a book called “The Lectionary”. All St. Bart’s lectors are supplied with a workbook with the texts for the specific year’s readings.

Training in our protocol is offered and participation in Archdiocesan Lector Ministry workshops is encouraged. Generally, two lectors are assigned per weekend Mass except for the 7 am which is solo and voluntary. Apart from special holidays, one is generally assigned one Mass per month.

Ability to project one’s voice, speak distinctly, and practice are necessary for good communication.

There is a power, a presence in the Word of God, which can touch and change lives – the reader’s as well as the listeners.
