Comments from the St. Barts Alumni
I
am Sister Rosella. I spent 20 of the greatest years of my life at
St. Bart's. I loved the people and everything about the place. The
living conditions for the sisters were rather odd but the people were
great. I remember names like Sheehy, Gallaher, Ellis, Peters, Tripp,
Salcetti, Burkart, Hannan, Brady, King,Lee, --I could go on and on.
I think that I have my first class list in purple ditto listing that
class. No one believes in this day and age that I taught 47 first
grade children all day and did my principal work in the p.m.
The teacher
I remember best was Mrs. Benke. She was cool. I recall the name Fr.
Fecto but have no memory. Mrs. McHugh was another teacher. Sr. Caroline
was our 8th grade teacher.
I'll
have to weed through the old photos... (wonder what ever happened
to sister Barbara)
Would
love more information on the reunion. I live near San Francisco now,
but get back to D.C. a couple of times per year to visit my parents.
this
really is something. it's a part of my life that feels like it's a
dream rather then something we experienced. 30 years is really a long
time ago. I recall watching the watergate hearings in class. remember
the "scope" scandel???
I am
in the process of moving from Scottsdale, AZ back to Washington, DC.
Please keep me updated as to the Spring reunion - I should be there!
In addition, I have a copy of the Class of 1980 Last Will and Testament.
Can I mail a copy of it to you for use during the reunion?
In
'71, after a field trip to DC, the 6th grade class stopped at
Dunbarton Oaks in Georgetown for a picnic … Also, during that
'picnic', there was a fracas between the St Bart's students and the
other school's students - this is a powerful memory given other events
in US of that time related to race relations.
I attended
3rd through 6th grade, when I was pulled out to attend middle school
at St.John's in NW, Washington, DC. If it weren't for middle school,
I'd've completed with my class at St.Bart's, as my siblings did.
I
would like to see actual photos of the school (from an overseas alumnus)
I attended
the school for about a year and a half when my family and I lived
in the USA due to my father's job at the Interamerican Development
Bank in Washington DC. we lived in Bethesda and my sister and I attended
the school. We have wonderful memories and as I have seen in your
page it has grown a great deal. Congratulations. Now I am 50 years
old, I'm married and I have 3 grown up children. My best friend's
name was Adelia Kehoe (Dee) but I never heard of her after that.
