Grade
3
TEACHER: Kerry Parker (KParker@stbartholomew.org or Ext. 23)
The Third Grade is a self-contained classroom, where the major subjects
in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Religion, Science, and Social Studies
are taught. Art, Computer Science, Library, Music, Physical Education,
and Spanish are subjects taught by teachers in their specific disciplines.
Homework:
Homework
will be assigned every Monday-Thursday (subject to change due to holidays
and days off).
- The assignments will be written in your child’s “Assignment
Book”
- Homework is to be turned in on the morning it is due.
- Each child will have a 'Take-Home' folder. This folder will go home every
day with homework and various forms (field trip, volunteer, office,
etc.). The folder must be returned to school daily.
- Please
review your child’s folder every night.
- Long term assignments will also be given throughout the year.
Weekly
evaluation forms will be sent home each week noting each student’s
homework completion, class work, work habits/effort, and behavior. Comments may sometimes be provided on the forms. The weekly evaluation forms will be sent home
to be reviewed and signed by the parent(s). There is also a place for
parent comments. These forms are to be returned to school at the beginning
of each week.
Discipline
Policy: The discipline code contained in the St. Bartholomew
Handbook will be followed closely throughout the year. The plan below
outlines our classroom rules, possible rewards, and consequences for
appropriate and inappropriate behavior. They are:
Rules
1. Listen
carefully and follow directions
2. Work quietly
3. Be kind to others
4. Respect people and their property
5. Work and play safely
To encourage
students to follow these classroom rules, appropriate
behavior will be recognized with praise, stars, surprises, and celebrations. However, if
a student chooses to break a rule, the following steps will be taken:
- First
time a student breaks a rule: Warning
- Second
time: Lose five minutes of recess
- Third
time: Lunch with teacher
- Fourth
time: Call parents and notify principal
- Fifth time: Send to principal
Individual
weekly evaluations will be sent home noting student’s
work habits, class work and homework completion.
These reports are to be signed by parents and returned to school at the beginning of each
week.

The
following grading scale is used:
