We are fortunate to have an all day Kindergarten class. We provide a stimulating, educational, environment while helping to increase each child's self-identify and self-worth. It is our hope that each child will begin to recognize Kindergarten as a secure, happy place where he or she has a chance to experience independence to develop social relationships with peers, to express ideas verbally, as well as non-verbally, to explore, to experiment, and to discover new things.

Religion

The Kindergarten program is based on developing positive self-concepts through prayer, songs, stories, role playing and art.

Kinders learn about a loving and caring God and develop Christian attitudes of sharing, being kind to and respectful of others. We go to Mass with the whole school and we have special sixth grade buddies to sit with us.

Language Arts

Kindergarten uses the McGraw Hill Reading Series. This is an integrated approach to literature, journal and creative writing. Other stories and activities are interwoven throughout the language arts curriculum. Handwriting skills are also included in the program.

Math

We will relate concepts to a child's experience through a variety of materials. Your child will learn by doing. The concepts that will be covered include Data Organization, Sets, Measurement, Numerals (0-20), Time, Money, Addition, Fractions, Shapes, Patterns, and Pictographs.

Social Studies and Science

We will be studying various topics related to these units throughout the school year: School Safety, All About Me, Family and Schools, Seasonal Holidays and Changes, Plants and Seeds, Christmas Around the World and Family Traditions, Health and Nutrition, The Five Senses, Metamorphosis of Butterflies and Frogs and the Caring of Pets.

Homework Policy

As the youngest members in the system I feel that it is appropriate for Kindergarten children have only three to four assignments a week. All assignments for Kindergarten children should be done by the children with as little adult involvement as possible.
