Music

Teacher: Caitlin Mariconti (cmariconti@stbartholomew.org) ext. 50

Through the experience of singing, moving, playing instruments, and improvising, children are encouraged to tap into another area of learning.  These developing skills cross into other subject areas, but also strengthen children’s awareness of themselves, others, and cultures from around the world.

This year, our students will study music and traditions from different times and places.  The upper grades will begin a new program of “music journaling” that will expose them to a wide variety of musical ideas.  All students will experience a variety of instruments and will learn the mechanics and vocabulary of reading music.  We will prepare music as a whole school for the Christmas pageant.

Also, a volunteer “St Bartholomew Choir” for grades 4 and up, which will sing at Masses and other school functions will be formed.  Please encourage your child to join—our rehearsals will be once a week during the school day.

The grading system places great emphasis on participation and attitude.  Through participation and a positive attitude toward music, every student has the potential to succeed.

The following rules and procedures for music class are essential for a productive class time.

  1. Come in and take your seat quietly.
  2. Participate in songs/activities.
  3. Sing, Stop, and Listen.
  4. Be careful with instruments and chairs.
  5. Use kind words at all times.
