Music
Teacher: Sarah Kayser (skayser@stbartholomew.org) ext. 50
Through the experience of singing, moving, playing instruments, and improvising, children are encouraged to tap into another area of learning. These developing skills cross into other subject areas, but also strengthen children’s awareness of themselves, others, and cultures from around the world.
This year, our students will study music and traditions from different times and places.
The upper grades will continue “music journaling”, which
exposes them to a wide variety of musical ideas. All students will experience a
variety of instruments and will learn the mechanics and vocabulary of reading
music. We will prepare music as a whole school for the Christmas Pageant.
Also we will prepare for Mass both musically and
spiritually, learning more about our faith through song. The 4th grade volunteer choir will lead the school in singing at Mass.
The grading system places great emphasis on participation
and attitude. Through participation and a positive attitude toward music, every
student has the potential to succeed.
The following rules and procedures for music class are
essential for a productive class.
1.
Recognize
Christ one another by respecting the teacher and students.
2.
Be
prepared and participate fully in class activities, including listening and
singing.
3.
Only
touch your own belongings and instruments
