Basic Curriculum
K- 2
In kindergarten through second grade the focus is on word decoding skills as well as oral reading skills. Vocabulary and the use of context clues is also introduced. With comprehension the focus is on literal meanings, predictions and conclusions.
3-5
In grades three to five, skills reviewed are word decoding and oral reading. Vocabulary is expanded to include definition. Comprehension shifts focus to cause and effect, main ideas and details. Writing skills are developed.
6-8
Comprehension is the focus in the upper grades focusing on text or factual information. Writing skills are further developed to include essays and long term papers. Studies skills are included.
Expectations
Students are expected to become better readers. And to be able to cope with their reading challenges.
A Typical Student
Students generally come to the resource room two to three times a week.
Assessment
We are continually assessing the students. Assessments are given by the local county or by private doctors.
