Our parish is self-sustaining, through the incredible genorostiy of our members. We take the responsibility of good stewardship seriously, and our Finance Council ensures prudent use of funds to carry out our mission.
Canon law asks that every local Church have a council that oversees the treasure that is collected for its financial well-being. The St. Bartholomew Finance Council meets throughout the year, and prepares an accounting that is shared with the Archdiocese of Washington and St. Bartholomew parishioners.
The St. Bart's Finance Council advises the Pastor and helps him ensure that the annual budget is properly prepared and that the Annual Financial Report is prepared and submitted to the Archdiocese of Washington and with St. Bart's parishioners. The Finance Council also develops procedures for the deposit of church funds in interest-bearing checking and savings accounts and evaluates the effectiveness of church support through the Sunday Offertory and Faith Direct. The Council reviews the performance of the Youth and Educational Endowment and other investment accounts which may be established, develops a plan for the financing of needed repairs, renovations, and equipment purchases, and develops plans for the systematic payment of any parish debt. It coordinates all fundraising programs, meets all requirements of federal and state tax law, maintains records, and submits required tax documents to the civil authorities. It safeguard the assets of the parish from loss or damage through appropriate review of insurance coverage and implements all other Archdiocesan policies related to finances, including implementing the Archdiocesan bookkeeping and accounting system.
“Precisely because God gives a resounding 'yes' to man, man cannot fail to open himself to the divine vocation to pursue his own development. The truth of development consists in its completeness: if it does not involve the whole man and every man, it is not true development.”
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
Caritas in Veritate, 18
